The relentless pre-monsoon showers in Bengaluru have plunged Sai Layout in Horamavu into crisis, where several families continue to remain trapped in waterlogged homes. In 3rd Cross of Sai Layout, floodwater has risen dangerously high, reaching the windows of ground-floor houses, causing distress among residents who have now been living in stagnant, dirty water for nearly a week.

For the past 5 to 6 days, locals have been wading through knee-deep slush and foul-smelling water inside and outside their homes. The situation has become unbearable for many, especially with no electricity for three consecutive days and growing health concerns due to the unhygienic conditions.
More than 200 people from the worst-affected homes have already been evacuated and relocated. The fire and emergency services remain stationed at the site, while BBMP officials, including Mahadevapura AEE Arpita, have been monitoring the area. Arpita stated that food, medical aid, and clean water have been arranged, and efforts are underway to drain the water completely.
Despite these assurances, residents claim the response has been too slow, with drainage infrastructure failing yet again during seasonal rains. The stagnant water has also caused damage to vehicles and blocked access to roads and essential services.
As heavy rains are expected to continue, the situation in Sai Layout stands as a stark reminder of Bengaluru’s fragile flood management system.
