Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda has stirred controversy with his remarks on the India-China border dispute, dismissing the tensions as exaggerated and influenced by the United States' geopolitical stance. His statement, made in response to US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate in the dispute, has been strongly criticized by the BJP.

Pitroda downplayed the border conflict, questioning the perception of China as a threat and suggesting that India’s approach had been “confrontational from the beginning.” He further argued that assuming China as an enemy was unfair and called for increased dialogue, collaboration, and cooperation instead of hostility. His comments have been widely viewed as undermining India's long-standing concerns over Chinese aggression.

The remarks came shortly after Trump acknowledged the severity of the India-China border skirmishes, describing them as “vicious” and offering to mediate. India, however, reaffirmed its stance on handling disputes bilaterally, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterating that discussions with China remain a direct diplomatic effort without external involvement.

This is not the first time Pitroda has made controversial statements. His past comments on India’s economy, governance, and international relations have often put the Congress party in an awkward position. His latest remarks have once again drawn sharp criticism, reinforcing concerns over his lack of political prudence.
