Dr Cyriac Abby Philips (popularly known as TheLiverDoc on X) lashed out at Tollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu for promoting hydrogen-peroxide as a preventive measure and cure for respiratory viral infections. He cited a note from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America which marked the practice as being dangerous. “In a rational and scientifically progressive society, this woman will be charged with endangering public health and fined or put behind bars. She needs help or a better advisor in her team. Will India's Health Ministry or any health regulatory body do something about these social media health influenzasdamaging public health or will they remain spineless and let people die,” Dr Cyriac mentioned on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Samantha responded to the criticism through a post on the social media website Instagram. She questioned Dr Cyriac about the harshness of his tone and recommended that a healthy debate with the doctor community would prove to be more resourceful for common people. “I am not naive enough to go about strongly advocating a treatment. I merely suggested with good intention because of all that I have faced and learnt in the last couple of years. Especially that treatments can be financially draining and many may not be able to afford them. End of the day, we all depend on educated doctors to guide us. This treatment was suggested to me by a highly qualified doctor who is an MD, who has served DRDO for 25 years. He, after all his education in conventional medicine, chose to advocate an alternate therapy,” Samantha stated.
