Samsung is reportedly in the final stages of discussions with Perplexity AI to reshape its smartphone AI strategy, signaling a potential departure from its current reliance on Google’s Gemini. According to industry insiders, the South Korean tech giant is considering preloading Perplexity AI’s assistant across future devices and making a substantial investment in the US-based startup.

If the deal materializes, Samsung could integrate Perplexity AI into several core aspects of its ecosystem, including its default browser, the Bixby assistant, and possibly even its operating system. Sources suggest that these changes could start rolling out later this year, with a broader deployment expected in the Galaxy S26 lineup in 2026. However, discussions are ongoing, and the plans might still evolve before any official announcement is made.

This partnership could represent Samsung’s biggest strategic shift in the AI space in years. Until now, Samsung has heavily relied on Google’s AI offerings, such as Gemini, to power features within its Galaxy AI suite. By collaborating with Perplexity, Samsung aims to diversify its AI solutions and lessen its dependence on Google.
For Perplexity AI, the potential deal marks its largest collaboration in the mobile space. The startup has already gained traction by partnering with Motorola and integrating its assistant into the Razr 60 series. With Samsung’s support, Perplexity AI could significantly expand its reach and capabilities.
Interestingly, Apple has also shown interest in Perplexity’s technology, considering it as a possible alternative to Google and ChatGPT for Siri. However, the impact of a Samsung-Perplexity alliance on Apple’s plans remains uncertain.
The partnership may also include the development of a new AI-powered operating system and a dedicated app that would centralize AI tools, further enhancing Samsung’s AI ecosystem.
