In an effort to expose alleged sexual misconduct in the Kannada film industry, members of the group FIRE (Fight Inequality Rights and Empowerment), including actors Chetan and Shruti Hariharan, met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, seeking a formal investigation into the matter. The actors highlighted the urgent need for protection of women in the industry.

Shruti Hariharan emphasized that their aim is not to name individuals but to address the larger issue of safety for women actors in Sandalwood. “We are not throwing names around, but women in the industry need protection,” she said during the meeting.

Chetan, echoing her concerns, mentioned that the group has garnered significant public support, showcasing a letter signed by 153 individuals calling for action. When CM Siddaramaiah asked if sexual improprieties were indeed prevalent in the industry, Chetan confirmed the allegations.

Actor Nithu Shetty further supported these claims, reiterating the need for greater security for women working in Sandalwood. She pointed out the vulnerability many women face in the industry and called for reforms to safeguard their rights.

The gravity of the allegations has prompted widespread attention, with many hoping that the government’s involvement will lead to a thorough investigation and necessary reforms within the Kannada film industry.
