Solar powered ‘Save our Soul’ boxes have been placed in multiple spots across the Bengaluru- Mysuru expressway. The purpose of these boxes is to aid citizens who are in distress to get in contact with nearby police stations and call centres. The technology makes use of the GPS (Global Positioning System). It has a provision to enable voice communication. It has a distinctive orange colour that enables easy identification. Each SOS also has a unique identification number, that would enable the emergency service providers to reach the location of crisis quickly which becomes very crucial for an adequate response.
When an individual presses the SOS box, an integrated camera gets activated, this establishes a line of contact with JLB Road (Jhansi Lakshmibai Road) in Mysuru. Ambulances and patrolling vehicles are also notified simultaneously. The system is not dependent on internet connectivity.
PC Mohan, MP (Member of Parliament) from Bengaluru Central, had tweeted announcing this development.

Countries like the United Kingdom already have a SOS system placed at every mile. In the United States of America it is present every 0.25 miles. This system was introduced in Australia in the year 1966.
