In a sharp rebuke to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed its plea challenging a Karnataka High Court order that had quashed proceedings against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvathi in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.

A division bench led by Justice Surya Kant questioned the rationale behind the ED’s appeal, stating, “Why should ED be used for political battles? Let political fights be fought in the elections, not in courts.” The court observed that the single-judge bench of the High Court had rightly quashed the case, finding no procedural error in the order.

The MUDA case had alleged irregularities in site allotments involving Parvathi Siddaramaiah. However, the Supreme Court maintained that the matter lacked sufficient grounds for ED intervention and warned against using central agencies as tools in political disputes.
