The Supreme Court's bench, comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, criticized the CBI and the Maharashtra government for challenging the High Court's decision, suggesting their actions were motivated by the Chakraborty family's high-profile status. Justice Gavai remarked, “This petition is frivolous and will incur serious consequences. It seems to be targeted because of the prominence of the accused.” He emphasized that the Chakraborty family has established roots in society, warranting a fair approach.
The CBI issued lookout circulars against Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and their parents, Lt. Colonel Indrajit and Sandhya Chakraborty, following an FIR filed by Sushant Singh Rajput's family in Patna. The case was subsequently handed over to the CBI, leading to extensive media scrutiny and public attention.
This ruling marks a notable moment in the ongoing legal battles faced by the Chakraborty family amid the high-profile case, which has captivated public interest since Rajput’s tragic passing in June 2020.
