The Karnataka government has appointed senior IPS officer Seemanth Kumar Singh as the new Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, following the suspension of B. Dayananda in the aftermath of the tragic stampede during IPL celebrations that claimed 11 lives.
Singh, a 1996-batch IPS officer, was serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) prior to this appointment. He has held several key positions in the past, including ADGP of the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), and has also served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada from 2000 to 2004. Between 2010 and 2012, he was the Commissioner of Police in Mangaluru City.
Originally from Ranchi, Jharkhand, Singh is known for his administrative acumen and hands-on policing experience. His appointment comes at a critical time as the city recovers from the fallout of the stampede incident linked to the IPL final celebrations.
The high-voltage IPL 2025 final, held on June 3, saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) face Punjab Kings. While RCB’s win brought joy to fans, the subsequent crowd mismanagement resulted in tragedy, prompting swift administrative reshuffles.
