Former Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has sought capital punishment for actor-accused Darshan and others in the murder of Renukaswamy.

He said, “I have been seeing how a shamiana has been erected on the police station premises. There is no transparency in the issue. He and others deserve capital punishment. Anything less than that would be a travesty of justice. My heart goes out for the poor victim.”

Contrasting Darshan against other Kannada actors, he said, “Kannada industry boasts of legends like Dr Rajkumar, Dr Vishnuvardhan and Dr Puneeth Rajkumar. Looking at him (Darshan), we can palpably feel the difference.”

He also said that no police officer should interfere in the matter and urged the government to bring the accused to book, without fear or favour.

The Incident

In Bengaluru's RR Nagar, a pharmaceutical worker was allegedly kidnapped and confined in a shed a few days ago. During his captivity, Darshan and his accomplices reportedly assaulted him due to accusations of sending inappropriate messages to Pavitra Gowda. The worker later died, and his body was disposed of in a drain.

Darshan's Arrest

Darshan was apprehended at a gym in Mysuru. He, along with other suspects, including the primary accused Pavitra Gowda (A1), were taken into custody. They are currently under a six-day detention. Yesterday, the police escorted them to the shed for a spot inspection.

Family's Response

Renukaswamy's wife and mother have demanded severe punishment for all the accused. His mother has gone as far as to call for their execution.
