A major train derailment in Odisha’s Cuttack district left seven people injured on Sunday when the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express went off the tracks near Nirgundi, close to Manguli. The incident occurred at 11:54 am, causing the derailment of eleven coaches and disrupting rail traffic on the route.

Emergency services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Fire Service, were deployed for rescue operations. The injured passengers were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities stated that the number of injured was unlikely to exceed ten.

The train was traveling from Bengaluru to Kamakhya station in Assam when the accident took place. Following the derailment, a relief train was dispatched to the site to assist stranded passengers. Efforts are underway to restore normal operations, with priority given to clearing the affected railway tracks.

The derailment also led to the diversion of three trains—Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express—to alternate routes to minimize disruptions.

Railway authorities have activated helpline numbers to assist passengers and their families with information and support. Meanwhile, efforts continue to determine the cause of the derailment and expedite the restoration of services to ensure minimal inconvenience to travelers.
