  • Shashi Tharoor will lead one of 7 MP teams to brief foreign nations on India’s anti-terror stance
  • The bipartisan delegations include leaders from both ruling and opposition parties
  • The diplomatic mission begins after May 22, covering the US, UK, UAE, Qatar, and South Africa

In a rare display of cross-party cooperation, senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been chosen to head one of seven all-party delegations of Indian parliamentarians set to visit several key nations. These delegations have been tasked with presenting India’s stance on the recent flare-up with Pakistan, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian military’s subsequent response under "Operation Sindoor."

The initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, is part of India’s broader diplomatic strategy to strengthen international support against terrorism. Despite being a prominent opposition figure, Tharoor’s selection as a delegation leader signals the government's intention to put national unity ahead of political rivalry on global platforms.

Announcing the effort on social media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “When it matters most, Bharat speaks with one voice. These delegations will carry the shared message that terrorism will not be tolerated, no matter where it originates.”

Apart from Tharoor, other MPs who will lead the remaining six groups include Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Baijayant Panda (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK), Supriya Sule (NCP), and Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena). Each team will comprise five to six members, with their visits planned to nations such as the US, UK, UAE, Qatar, and South Africa.

The delegations are expected to begin their overseas visits after May 22. Official communication has already been initiated with the respective host countries.

This effort marks a coordinated response by India’s political leadership to present a united stand against terrorism on the world stage, setting politics aside for a common cause.
