A bizarre explanation by a constable of Uttar Pradesh’s Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) for his repeated tardiness has gone viral on social media. In response to a disciplinary notice for arriving late to duty, he claimed that his wife haunts his dreams, sits on his chest, and tries to drink his blood, causing him sleepless nights.

The incident came to light when the PAC 44th Battalion G-Squad Commander, Madhu Sudhan Sharma, issued a warning letter on February 17, 2025. The notice accused the constable of neglecting his responsibilities, arriving late for a crucial briefing on February 16, and failing to maintain proper uniform standards. It also mentioned his lack of discipline and repeated delays in team activities.
In his written explanation, the constable stated that personal disputes with his wife had severely impacted his mental health. He claimed that terrifying nightmares left him unable to sleep, making him unfit for duty. He also cited his mother’s illness as an additional source of stress.
The constable mentioned that he was undergoing treatment for depression and irritability. Despite his emotional appeal, he was instructed to provide a formal explanation within a day or face disciplinary action.
The unusual response quickly gained attention online, sparking debates on mental health in law enforcement and the pressures faced by personnel in paramilitary forces.
