After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Pakistan’s stance has remained firm. Following the massacre of tourists, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made his first official statement, warning India. In response to the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, which is a critical blow to Pakistan, as the Indus River is vital to its survival. Sharif warned that if India diverts the river’s water, Pakistan would respond with military action. He stressed that Pakistan is fully prepared to face any consequences.

This attack is considered the deadliest since India revoked Article 370 in 2019, which ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Sharif acknowledged that 26 people, including Indian and Nepali nationals, were killed in the incident. He expressed Pakistan’s willingness to conduct an impartial investigation into the attack and said Pakistan is open to discussions based on credible findings.
Sharif urged that both India and Pakistan must move away from the constant blame game and instead focus on cooperative measures. He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to assist if an unbiased investigation into the Pahalgam tragedy is pursued. Despite this, the deep mistrust between the two countries remains, with tensions further fueled by the latest events.
