Bengaluru’s much-anticipated Silk Board Metro Station, located near the Central Silk Board Junction, faced an unexpected challenge just days before its inauguration, severe waterlogging. Following recent rainfall, the ground level of the station was completely submerged, causing disruption and concern among metro authorities and the public.

The station, which is part of the upcoming Yellow Line extension, had been nearing its final preparations for inauguration. However, videos and images captured at the site showed the entire ground floor, including the elevator areas, inundated with water. Metro personnel were seen pumping out water manually while restricting public entry into the premises for safety reasons.

Sources indicate that the flooding may have occurred due to improper drainage infrastructure and the area's low-lying geography, both of which have historically made the Silk Board Junction vulnerable to water accumulation. With the ground floor completely waterlogged, cleaning crews were deployed on emergency duty to remove debris and stagnant water in time for the station's launch.
The incident has sparked criticism online, with citizens questioning the planning and construction standards of Bengaluru’s expanding metro network. Concerns are now being raised about the long-term resilience of newly built metro stations against seasonal rains and whether similar issues could plague other upcoming stations.
Authorities have assured that necessary steps are being taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
