Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurs due to the accumulation of fat in the liver. People with obesity are more prone to be affected by it. Diabetes is also a potential risk for NAFLD. Alcohol and smoking addiction could also result in this condition.

Pain in lower ribs, tiredness, weakness, tiredness and unaccounted weight loss are potential symptoms of NAFLD.

The condition is mostly non lethal and only in advanced stages, referred to as cirrhosis do complications arise such as jaundice and swelling in the legs. In case of cirrhosis a liver transplant would be required. However, adopting a healthy lifestyle is an adequate deterrent for all other stages of the disease.

Possible measures one can take to reduce inflammation are listed below.

An ample dose of Broccoli, Kale, Spinach, Brussel sprouts in the regular diet can reduce the accumulation of fats in the liver.

Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish, vegetable oil, flaxseeds and walnuts and monounsaturated fats such as avocados, olive oils and nuts improves the body’s reception to insulin which is crucial to combat NAFLD.

Green tea, Garlic and fibre rich carbs can help in weight loss and regulating blood pressure. Ample doses of Vitamin-D and potassium are required to combat severe forms of NAFLD.
