Sri Lanka managed to get past 35- the lowest ODI score by a test playing nation

Earlier rain had caused a slight delay in the commencement of the game

The Asia Cup Final commenced from 3:40 PM after a round of showers caused a slight delay. Washington Sundar replaced Axar Patel in the Indian squad whereas Dushan Hemantha replaced Matheesha Theekshana for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first.

The proceedings however quickly turned India’s way with Kusal Perara departed for a duck in the very first over after edging a ball to the keeper KL Rahul. 

However, what would eventually turn into a nightmare for the Sri Lankan top order and middle order was not Bumrah’s skiddy length but the raw aggression of Mohammad Siraj from the other. He picked up 4 wickets in a single over. 3 of them were catches in the inner circle and one of them was Sadeera Samarawickrama trapped leg-before-wicket. In the next over he even managed to get Dasun Shanaka clean bowled. Sri Lanka were reduced to 12 for the loss of 6 wickets. 

They were competing for the lowest ever score by a test playing nation in One-Day-Internationals (ODI). Sri Lanka were at the bowler’s end  when the record was created by Zimbabwe being bowled out for 35 in 2004. However Kushal Mendis showed some resilience before he too was out bowled to Siraj, exposing the tail after merely having accumulated 31 runs. Sri Lanka however managed to cross the 35 run mark eventually!
