A tragic helicopter crash near the River Bhagirathi in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district claimed six lives and left two others injured on Thursday morning. The private helicopter, operated by AeroTrans Services Private Limited, was en route to the revered Gangotri shrine when it crashed into a deep gorge measuring approximately 200 to 250 meters, according to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The accident occurred around 9 AM near Ganganani, and initial reports indicated that seven people were on board. Local residents, along with police personnel, reached the crash site swiftly. Emergency response teams, including the police, Army, disaster management Quick Response Team, an ambulance team and local officials were immediately deployed to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.

Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey reportedly confirmed the crash and stated that administration and relief teams were present at the site to manage the situation.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He assured the public that a detailed investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash. The Chief Minister also mentioned that he is in constant contact with officials and is closely monitoring the rescue and relief operations.
