In a dramatic last-minute twist, six naxals who had planned to surrender in Chikkamagaluru have decided to do so in Bengaluru, in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This move marks a significant turning point in the naxal conflict in the Chikkamagaluru region.

The six individuals, including Latha from Mundugaru, Vanajakshi from Balehole, Sundari from Kuntalur, Marappa Aroli from Raichur, Vasantha, and N. Jisha, have been long associated with the Naxal movement. They reportedly abandoned their guerrilla lifestyle to embrace peace, following years of conflict in the forests.
Earlier today, the group was scheduled to surrender before Chikkamagaluru District Collector Meena Nagaraj and senior police officials. Accompanied by members of the Civil Forum for Peace, the naxals were en route to the District Collector’s office when they announced a change in plans.
The decision to surrender in Bengaluru reflects the assurances given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has reportedly pledged to support their reintegration into society. Sources suggest the move was influenced by the recent encounter of senior naxal leader Vikram Gowda, which left the group shocked and reconsidering their path.
As the naxals head to Bengaluru, their surrender symbolizes the end of an era of violence in the Chikkamagaluru forests and a step toward rehabilitation. Their 10-point demand list, submitted to the government, underscores their commitment to a peaceful transition.
