‘Some things are not meant to be made into cinema,’ ; Fahad Fassil reflects on Dhoomam’s failure

Aavesham starring Mollywood actor Fahad Fassil is expected to touch the Rs 50 crore mark with positive reviews emerging from both the critics and the audience. The film has collected Rs 23.44 crore within the first 6 six days of its release.

Earlier in the year, Fahad had collaborated with Sandalwood director Pawan Kumar for the project titled “Dhoomam”. The film however failed to impress the audience. The net collection for the film was Rs 2.25 crore. In a recent interview with Omanorama, Fahad reflected on why it didn’t connect with the people. “I am a smoker myself, so I am not someone to tell people not to smoke. The intention was to make people aware of the existing system, where a tobacco company is 70 percent owned by the Life Insurance Corporation. I was surprised with the system. These same companies change prices, launch substitutes and sell cheaper stuff. But the story misfired. Some things are not meant to be made into cinema. They are beyond people’s understanding. These stories and concepts may sound good when you hear it and seem like a good cinematic opportunity, but they don’t work when you try to make it into his movie,” Fahad said.
