The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has announced a temporary ban on renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam from the Kannada film industry, following a controversial incident that took place on April 25. Speaking at a press conference, KFCC President Narasimhalu stated that Nigam would not be permitted to work in the Sandalwood industry until he formally apologizes for the incident.

Though details of the April 25 altercation have not been officially disclosed, the matter has escalated with a First Information Report (FIR) being registered against Nigam at the Avalahalli Police Station. In line with this, a notice has been served to him, requiring his response by next week.
Supporting the Chamber’s stance, noted Kannada music director Dharm Vish confirmed that they have also sought the backing of major audio companies to ensure the enforcement of the ban. He emphasized that such actions are necessary to protect the dignity and unity of the Kannada film industry.
The decision to impose the ban appears to be aimed at setting a precedent that public figures are accountable for their actions, particularly when they impact regional sentiments or the film fraternity. The Chamber has made it clear that a public apology from Nigam could potentially reverse the ban, but until then, he remains unwelcome in any Sandalwood project.
