    Health department hopes to see good response to organ donation campaign

Even as the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Karnataka is making efforts to find suitable organ donors from across places, there are over a whopping 7,302 patients in Karnataka who are awaiting organ transplants.

Finding suitable donors for transplants is a big challenge given the various factors that are needed to be considered for matching organ transplant in a patient with the organ donors. For instance, if a patient has a negative blood group, then it might take a longer time to find a suitable match for his organ transplant.

According to SOTTO data, there are over 5,288 patients in Karnataka who are waiting for kidney transplant and 1,686 patients for liver transplant.

There are also over 161 patients who need heart, 68 liver, 28 heart and lungs, 45 liver and kidney, 23 kidney and pancreas, two heart and kidneys, and one small intestine transplant in the state of Karnataka.

In a recently held government event in Bengaluru on the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day on August 03, the Karnataka Ministry of Health and Family Welfare roped in Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar as the brand ambassador of the Karnataka government’s organ donation campaign in the state.

SOTTO and the Karnataka health department hopes to see good response to the organ donation campaign of the state government and there are more number of people coming forward to donate their organs and bestow their humanitarian blessing upon patients in dire need of organs for transplant.
