In a significant boost to bilateral relations, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that Spain will soon open a consulate in Bengaluru. Addressing the Indian diaspora in Madrid, he described this move as a step towards deepening economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

Jaishankar also revealed plans to celebrate 2026 as a "dual year," focused on fostering collaboration in cultural exchange, tourism, and advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). These initiatives underscore the expanding depth of India’s relationship as economic engagements grow.

The minister reportedly highlighted the importance of the Indian diaspora, noting their increasing global recognition over the past decade. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing the diaspora’s role in enhancing India’s international presence.
