    Traffic violations too have contributed significantly to road accidents

Overspeeding, rash driving, drunken driving and traffic violations have led to a 12% increase in road accidents last year, as compared to 2021 

In 2022 alone, as many as 4,61,312 road accidents were recorded. In 2021, the number was 4,12,432 in 2021, a report released by the transport ministry said. 

The report also highlighted the fact that speeding alone caused as many as 3.3 lakh road mishaps in 2022. 

When it comes to alcohol-related driving, over 10,000 accidents were reported. And as far as jumping red lights was concerned, it rose to 4021 in 2022 from 2203 in 2021, thereby seeing a rise of 82.55%. 

Riding without helmets 

As many as 50,000 people died as they rode bikes without helmets in 2022. 

As per the report, “During 2022, a total of 50,029 persons were killed who were not wearing helmets, of which 35,692 (71.3%) persons were drivers and 14,337 (28.7%) were passengers.”

Accidents related to seatbelts 

It might be noted that 16715 people lost their lives as they did not wear seatbelts. Out of these, 8,384 were drivers and 8,331 were passengers.
