  • RCB to bear full ₹4.5 crore cost

Ahead of proposed matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has offered to install hundreds of AI cameras around the venue to ensure crowd safety and smooth management.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is preparing to host matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with a strong focus on improving spectator safety and crowd control. As part of this effort, the RCB management has come forward with a major technology-driven proposal aimed at preventing crowd-related issues during matches.

During a formal meeting with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the RCB management discussed plans to strengthen security arrangements around the stadium. One of the key proposals placed before KSCA was the installation of AI-powered surveillance cameras in and around the Chinnaswamy Stadium premises.

According to the proposal, RCB plans to install between 300 and 350 AI cameras covering the stadium surroundings. These cameras will be used to manage large crowds, monitor movement, and ensure that fans follow orderly queue systems while entering the venue.

The AI-based system will also enable real-time tracking of entry and exit points, helping authorities detect and prevent any unauthorised access. Officials said the technology will assist in effective crowd regulation, especially during peak entry and exit hours.

In a significant move, RCB has expressed its willingness to bear the entire cost of the project on its own, without seeking financial support from external agencies. The estimated cost of installing the AI camera network is around ₹4.5 crore, and the franchise has clearly stated that it is ready to fund this as a one-time expense.

The initiative is being viewed as a proactive step by RCB to address safety concerns and strengthen crowd management mechanisms, especially if matches are to be conducted at the centrally located and high-footfall Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Discussions on the proposal are currently underway, and further decisions are expected after consultations with KSCA and other concerned authorities.
