Except for Jasprit Bumrah, most Indian bowlers have struggled with expensive spells in the tournament, raising concerns for the team management before the crucial T20 World Cup final.
As the T20 World Cup reaches its decisive stage, Team India faces an unexpected concern ahead of the final, the performance of its bowling attack. While the batting unit has delivered strong performances throughout the tournament, the bowling department has struggled to maintain consistency.
Among the bowlers, only Jasprit Bumrah has stood out with impressive spells. The rest of the bowling unit has been expensive in several matches, creating concern for the team management before the high-pressure final clash.
Cricket experts often say that batters may win matches, but bowlers win championships. The importance of bowlers becomes even greater in global tournaments like the T20 World Cup. Even if the batters put up big totals, defending them becomes difficult without disciplined bowling.
The Indian coaching staff and captain are well aware of this reality, which is why the focus has now shifted towards improving the bowling performance before the final.

Varun Chakravarthy’s Mystery Spin Losing Impact
One of the talking points in the tournament has been the form of spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Known for his mystery spin, Varun has struggled against strong teams such as South Africa, West Indies and England.
Instead of troubling batters, he has been conceding runs at nearly nine runs per over, which has increased pressure on the team management before the final.
Arshdeep Singh Expensive in Big Matches
Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has also faced challenges in the ongoing tournament. Although he has taken nine wickets in seven matches, his economy rate and expensive overs in crucial games have been a concern.
In addition, extra runs through wides and no-balls have also affected India’s bowling rhythm during important moments of matches.
Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube Under Scrutiny
All-rounder Hardik Pandya has contributed with the ball but has not been very impressive in the tournament. Against strong opponents, he has leaked runs and currently has an economy rate of 8.79.
Another player facing criticism is Shivam Dube. The captain has been hesitant to use him frequently with the ball. Dube has an economy rate of 14.12, which has made him vulnerable against aggressive batters.
Axar Patel’s Role as X-Factor Spinner
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel has been considered an important X-factor for the team. Compared to Varun Chakravarthy, Axar has performed better overall.
However, when India is defending large totals, he sometimes loses control and allows the opposition to score freely. Despite having variety in his bowling, Axar will need to read the batters well and deliver a tight spell in the final.
Lack of Part-Time Bowling Options
Another issue for the team has been the lack of part-time bowling options. Except for Abhishek Sharma, the team does not have many players who can contribute a few overs.
Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma has bowled only one over in the entire World Cup, leaving the captain with limited bowling choices. Having multiple bowling options usually helps captains manage pressure situations more comfortably, but that flexibility has been missing.
As Team India prepares for the final, the responsibility now lies with the bowling unit to step up. Every bowler will need to deliver tight and disciplined spells, control the run flow and avoid unnecessary extras.
If the entire bowling attack can work collectively and support Bumrah’s efforts, India will significantly improve its chances of lifting the T20 World Cup trophy.
