Royal Challengers Bengaluru, fresh off their first IPL triumph, may soon be up for sale as current owners Diageo Plc reportedly seek buyers, says former IPL boss Lalit Modi.
2025 has been a rollercoaster year for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), marked by historic success and tragedy. The franchise clinched its maiden IPL title earlier this year, ending a long trophy drought. However, the celebrations turned somber when a stampede during title festivities in Bengaluru claimed 11 lives and injured several others.

Why RCB is a ‘Hot Investment’
According to Modi, RCB’s recent IPL title, large fanbase, strong team, and efficient management make it a prime investment opportunity. “I am sure one of the Big Global funds or a Sovereign Fund would desperately like to have them as part of their investment strategy and India strategy," he added.
Experts suggest that the sale could set a new record valuation for an IPL franchise, further highlighting the league’s status as one of the fastest-growing and most valuable sporting leagues globally. The new price that RCB fetches is expected to become the benchmark for all IPL team valuations.
