After trading Ravindra Jadeja, Chennai Super Kings are preparing for a major rebuild ahead of IPL 2026, entering the mini auction with ₹43.40 crore in hand and clear targets to fill key gaps in batting and bowling.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) appear to be entering a transition phase ahead of the IPL 2026 season, with the franchise taking some bold and tough calls. The biggest talking point has been the trade of experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, which has sent clear signals that CSK are ready for a reset and are planning aggressively for the future.
Five-time IPL champions CSK, known for stability and emotional loyalty to players, are now preparing to move forward beyond the MS Dhoni era. For the upcoming season, the franchise seems willing to take firm decisions to rebuild the squad with a fresh balance of experience and performance.

Ahead of the mini auction, CSK have retained 16 players and released 11, leaving the team with nine vacant slots to fill. Of these, four slots are reserved for overseas players. The franchise enters the auction with a strong purse of ₹43.40 crore, giving them flexibility to go for high-profile names if needed.
One of CSK’s top priorities is strengthening the lower middle order. With both Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran no longer part of the squad, the team is looking for reliable lower-order batters who can support MS Dhoni in pressure situations. England’s Liam Livingstone and South Africa’s David Miller are among the overseas batters CSK are closely monitoring.
The spin department has also become a major concern. With R. Ashwin retiring and Jadeja moving out, CSK are in need of a frontline spinner. While Noor Ahmad of Afghanistan and Shreyas Gopal are already part of the squad, the franchise is keen on adding experience and is considering Indian spinners Rahul Chahar and Ravi Bishnoi at the auction.

CSK are also planning to bolster their pace attack. Nathan Ellis is on their list as a frontline overseas pacer, but the team is actively searching for the right bowling partner. Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh and Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq are being considered, as both are seen as bowlers well-suited to Chennai conditions. There is also a possibility of Matheesha Pathirana returning to the squad if he becomes available at a reasonable price.
In terms of Indian batting depth, CSK are looking for strong backup options. Young Ayush Mhatre is seen as a promising top-order talent, but his lack of consistency has raised concerns. With Prithvi Shaw and Venkatesh Iyer available in the auction, CSK are expected to focus particularly on Venkatesh Iyer, who is viewed as a solid middle-order option.
Overall, CSK’s auction strategy remains clear and disciplined. While the franchise owners are known for being ready to spend big money, they are equally firm about avoiding players who do not fit into the team’s plans. As the mini auction approaches, CSK appear fully prepared for a calculated and impactful rebuild ahead of IPL 2026.
