ED summons Yuvraj Singh & Robin Uthappa in online betting probe

Former India cricket stars Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa are the latest to face ED questioning over alleged links to illegal betting platform 1xBet under the PMLA.

In a fresh twist to the ongoing investigation into illegal online betting platforms, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa for questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to sources, Robin Uthappa has been asked to appear before the agency on September 22, while Yuvraj Singh has been summoned a day later on September 23. Both players are expected to record their statements as part of the probe into 1xBet, an online betting app accused of operating illegally in India, dodging tax liabilities, and siphoning off crores from unsuspecting investors.

Uthappa, 39, who retired from professional cricket in 2022, had previously featured in promotional videos for 1xBet, which has been flagged by authorities for suspected violations of Indian law. Investigators are likely to question him regarding his association, contract details, and payments received for endorsing the app.

This development comes just days after the ED grilled former India players Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in connection with the same case. Dhawan, in particular, was reportedly questioned for over eight hours earlier this month.

Officials have intensified their probe into financial transactions linked to the betting platform, tracking suspected money laundering channels.
