After spending early matches on the bench, Sanju Samson grabbed a surprise opportunity and delivered powerful performances, smashing sixes and guiding India to crucial wins ahead of the final against New Zealand.
At the start of the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson was not even part of the team’s main playing plans. He spent the initial matches sitting on the bench, watching the games and even helping with team duties instead of being on the field. But today, the same player has turned into one of Team India’s most important match winners in the tournament.
While young batter Abhishek Sharma struggled, Sanju Samson got a sudden opportunity and made the most of it with powerful performances. His aggressive batting has shocked bowlers and changed India’s campaign in the tournament. Ahead of the final, even the New Zealand team is said to be wary of Samson’s form.
Before the T20 World Cup began, India played a series against New Zealand. During that series, Sanju Samson failed to perform well, which pushed him out of the team’s initial playing XI plans for the World Cup.
As a result, Ishan Kishan took over his spot in the team. In the early phase of the tournament, Samson had to remain on the sidelines. Out of the first five matches, he sat on the bench in four games, and during those matches he was mostly seen assisting the team rather than playing.
India suffered a major setback in the first Super 8 match against South Africa, which they lost badly. That defeat made India’s path to the semi-finals very difficult.
Following the loss, the team management decided to make changes. In a must-win match against Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson finally got his chance in the playing XI.
Although he scored 24 runs in that match, it was an important knock because it provided the team with a positive start and helped rebuild confidence.
One of Samson’s biggest performances came in the final Super 8 match against West Indies at Eden Gardens. The match had the intensity of a quarter-final because both teams were fighting for a place in the next stage.
Batting first, West Indies posted a strong 195-run total. India did not get a good start while chasing the big target. At that stage, Sanju Samson stepped in and took control of the innings.
Playing attacking cricket, he dominated the West Indies bowlers with aggressive strokes. Samson remained unbeaten on 97 runs, leading India to a crucial victory and taking the team safely across the finish line.
Samson continued his brilliant form in the semi-final against England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Once again, he played fearless cricket and attacked the English bowling lineup.
In a powerful innings, he scored 89 runs from just 42 balls, smashing 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. His aggressive batting left the England bowlers struggling to contain him.

Sanju Samson has become one of the most dangerous hitters in the tournament. In just four matches, he has already smashed 16 sixes, making him one of the top six-hitters of the competition.
Because of this performance, Samson has moved to fifth place in the list of players with the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup tournament. If he hits five more sixes, he could climb to the top position on that list.
In the four matches he has played so far, Samson has scored 232 runs in total. His performance has been extremely impressive, with an average of 77.33.
Even more remarkable is his strike rate of 201.73, which shows how aggressively he has batted throughout the tournament.
At the start of the tournament, Sanju Samson was simply waiting for an opportunity while sitting on the bench. Today, he has transformed into Team India’s key match winner, delivering crucial performances when the team needed them most.
With the T20 World Cup final approaching, fans are hoping Samson continues his superb form and plays another big innings. Supporters across the country are expecting India to lift its third T20 World Cup trophy, and Sanju Samson could once again play a decisive role.
