India clinch ODI series 2–1 against South Africa as Jaiswal shines in decider

India produced one of their most dominant ODI displays of the season, defeating South Africa by nine wickets with 61 balls to spare in Visakhapatnam to claim the three-match series 2–1. Chasing 271, India’s top order delivered a clinical, measured and utterly controlled performance that left South Africa with no answers.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed his maiden ODI century, finishing with a superb 112, mixing aggression with maturity in a pressure game. At the other end, Rohit Sharma struck a fluent 75, becoming the fifth batter in cricket history to cross 5,000 ODI runs in a single country. His knock also pushed him into an elite club as he became only the fourth Indian cricketer to surpass 20,000 international runs across formats.

Virat Kohli anchored the chase with a composed 65, registering his 71st 50-plus score in ODI chases, reaffirming his status as the format’s most reliable pursuer of targets. Together, the trio ensured India never slipped off course, securing the win with more than 10 overs remaining.

Earlier in the day, South Africa were restricted effectively despite a brisk 42/1 in the first powerplay. India’s bowlers struck in regular intervals, with Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna bagging four wickets each, breaking partnerships and tightening the middle overs. Their combined eight-wicket haul prevented South Africa from capitalising on their start and kept the total to a gettable 270.
