  • Team India confirms backing for Kohli
  • ICC No.1 batter in strong form
  • World Cup 2027 place almost certain

Management signals strong support as Kohli’s form, fitness and experience seal his place

Virat Kohli has received a major boost at the start of the year, with the Indian team management clearly indicating that the star batter will be part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

For months, there were doubts over whether Kohli would continue in the ODI setup till the next World Cup, especially during a phase when his form had dipped. However, those questions have now been firmly answered by the team management.

Currently ranked No.1 in the ICC ODI batting rankings, Kohli is enjoying a strong run with the bat. He has consistently scored runs against top opponents, silencing critics with his performances and reinforcing his importance to the team.

The 2027 ODI World Cup is still around 15 months away. Kohli, who is 37 now, will turn 38 by the time the tournament begins. Earlier, when he struggled for runs, many felt his World Cup dream was over. At one point, even the team management had started planning for the future without him.

That situation has now changed completely. Kohli’s return to peak form has forced selectors and team leaders to rethink their transition plans. Sources indicate that the management now sees no alternative to Kohli, making his spot in the World Cup squad almost certain.

India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak recently spoke about Kohli in a press conference, acknowledging his impact and value. Kotak highlighted Kohli’s batting ability, experience and mental strength, which continue to benefit the team during a transitional phase.

Fitness has also worked strongly in Kohli’s favour. Even at 37, he remains one of the fittest players in world cricket. Known for his strict training routine, Kohli spends long hours in the gym and continues to be sharp on the field, matching much younger players.

The 2027 ODI World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa and Zimbabwe. With fast and bouncy pitches expected in African conditions, the team management believes Kohli’s experience will be vital in guiding younger players and strengthening team confidence.

With form, fitness and experience firmly on his side, Virat Kohli now looks set to lead India’s batting charge once again on the biggest stage.
