The Australian allrounder becomes the third most expensive buy in IPL auction history after a fierce bidding war, despite entering the auction with a base price of just ₹2 crore.
Australian allrounder Cameron Green became the biggest talking point of the IPL 2026 mini auction after Kolkata Knight Riders secured his services for ₹25.20 crore following a heated bidding contest with Chennai Super Kings.
Green entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore, but strong interest from both CSK and KKR quickly escalated the bidding. The prolonged duel between the two franchises eventually ended with KKR placing the winning bid, making Green the third most expensive purchase in IPL auction history.

Only Rishabh Pant, who was sold for ₹27 crore in the 2025 auction, and Shreyas Iyer, who fetched ₹26.75 crore in the same year, have attracted higher prices.
The 26-year-old has already featured for two IPL franchises, representing Mumbai Indians in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024. He missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from back surgery.
Green returned to international cricket in June as a specialist batter and has since regained full fitness. He is now bowling regularly and has been used as a complete allrounder by Australia in the ongoing Ashes series, reaffirming his value across formats.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ aggressive bid reflects their intent to strengthen their core with a proven match-winner ahead of the upcoming IPL season.
