Global liquor giant Diageo initiates process to sell Royal Challengers Bangalore’s men’s and women’s cricket teams; new owners likely by March 2026.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise, one of the most popular teams in Indian cricket, is set for a major change. London-based liquor conglomerate Diageo, which owns RCB through its Indian subsidiary United Spirits Limited (USL), has officially begun the process to sell both the men’s and women’s teams.

According to reports, the company has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) about a strategic investment review of its sports business entity, Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL). The move is part of Diageo’s long-term restructuring plan, and the sale is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.
RCSPL currently holds ownership of both RCB’s men’s and women’s teams. Once the sale is finalized, the franchise could have new owners for the upcoming IPL and WPL seasons.

Sources suggest that the company’s decision comes after a comprehensive internal review of its sports investments. Though the exact reason behind the sale has not been officially confirmed, it follows a challenging year for RCB’s brand image. After the team’s maiden trophy win, a tragic incident at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 claimed 11 lives during the victory celebrations. Industry observers believe this event, along with Diageo’s shift in focus toward core business operations, may have accelerated the decision.
The final announcement regarding new ownership is expected once the evaluation concludes.
