  • Australia’s pace trio rattled India’s top order in Perth

Team India’s top order collapsed in the series opener at the Optus Stadium as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fell cheaply on their ODI comebacks, leaving India reeling at 30 for 3 against Australia’s fiery pace attack.

It was a nightmare start for Team India at the Optus Stadium, Perth, as their top three batsmen fell within the first hour of the opening ODI against Australia. Returning to international cricket after six months, Rohit Sharma managed just 8 runs off 14 balls before edging one to the slips off Josh Hazlewood. His only boundary, a classic straight drive, offered brief hope before Hazlewood’s extra bounce caught him off guard.

Virat Kohli’s return was even more shocking. The star batter, known for his consistency in Australian conditions, was dismissed for a duck, his first in ODIs on Australian soil. Trying to drive Mitchell Starc through the off-side, Kohli got a thick edge straight into the hands of the fielder, leaving fans stunned and the dressing room silent.

Shubman Gill, who briefly looked steady, couldn’t capitalize either. The young captain scored 14 runs with two boundaries before Nathan Ellis found his edge, sending him back to the pavilion. By then, India had slumped to 25/3, struggling to counter Australia’s fierce pace and movement on a lively Perth pitch.

At the crease now are Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Axar Patel, tasked with rebuilding India’s innings from a precarious 30/3. The early collapse has put Australia firmly in control, while Indian fans are left waiting for their heroes to fire in the matches ahead.
