A medical emergency involving Smriti Mandhana’s father triggered the postponement of the wedding, followed by a sudden health scare for Palash Muchhal.

The much-anticipated wedding of Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal was halted on Sunday in Sangli after two successive medical emergencies forced both families to postpone the ceremony indefinitely. Celebrations that had been underway for a week came to an abrupt stop when Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, experienced intense chest pain while the preparations were in full swing.

Following the sudden discomfort, an ambulance reached the venue immediately, and he was shifted to a local hospital. Medical examinations revealed elevated cardiac enzyme levels, indicating a potential cardiac issue. Doctors kept him under close observation and worked to stabilise his blood pressure, which had also spiked. Depending on how the situation progresses, angiography may be required, and his discharge will be considered only if his condition improves steadily.

Just as the family was coping with this development, another concern surfaced when Smriti’s fiance, Palash Muchhal, also had to be taken to a hospital after his health deteriorated amid the stress of the unfolding events. With both families dealing with back-to-back emergencies, all rituals were suspended.

Since Smriti insisted the ceremony could not proceed in her father’s absence, the entire wedding schedule has now been pushed ahead. The new date will be decided only after doctors confirm that Mr. Mandhana is stable enough to return home.

The celebrations in Sangli, which had drawn significant attention, now remain on hold as the families prioritise health and recovery before resuming the wedding plans.
