  • Selection dilemma over Sanju Samson
  • Bowling economy causing concern
  • Pressure high before do-or-die match

From team selection to bowling economy and batting strategy, Surya Kumar Yadav’s side faces growing challenges just before a crucial must-win encounter.

Ahead of the crucial do-or-die encounter against West Indies, confusion and concerns have started surfacing in the Indian camp. While Team India had a smooth run during the early league stage of the T20 World Cup, the defeat against South Africa seems to have unsettled the balance of the squad.

Even though India registered a dominant victory over Zimbabwe, the underlying issues continue to trouble captain Surya Kumar Yadav and the team management. From batting choices to bowling effectiveness and match strategy, uncertainty has crept into multiple areas, raising concerns before the high-pressure clash.

One of the biggest dilemmas revolves around Sanju Samson’s selection. The wicketkeeper-batter has featured in only two matches in the tournament, scoring a total of 46 runs. With limited impact so far, the management is unsure whether to back him again or keep him on the bench. Giving Samson another chance could be a risk in such a crucial match, and the team is carefully weighing its options.

Another worrying sign is the form of Varun Chakravarthy. The mystery spinner, who earlier troubled batters, appears to have lost his edge. Against South Africa, he conceded 47 runs, followed by 35 runs against Zimbabwe, making him one of the more expensive bowlers. With his mystery fading, opposition batters are now playing him with confidence, creating a significant concern for the bowling unit.

The bowling economy of all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube has also emerged as a problem. Pandya has an economy rate of 8.42, while Dube has gone for runs at a high rate of 13.28. Their spells, instead of strengthening the team, have often added pressure, prompting worries about bowling combinations.

On the batting front, decision-making at the toss remains another area of confusion. Team India has shown greater success while chasing, whereas batting first has led to multiple stumbles. Surya Kumar Yadav now faces a tactical challenge in deciding whether to rely on chasing strength or attempt to set totals.

Adding to this is the pressure of expectations. As the defending champions and tournament favourites, Team India carries the burden of delivering in big matches. With strong units in batting, bowling, and fielding, the side is capable, but handling pressure in high-stakes games remains crucial.

Overall, while challenges and confusion are common in major tournaments, Team India must quickly resolve these issues. Only a calm approach, clear strategy, and collective effort can help Surya Kumar Yadav’s team overcome hurdles and register a vital victory against West Indies.
