Technical error in rival candidate’s papers clears path for Prasad’s return to KSCA leadership after over a decade.
Former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has been elected unopposed as the new President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) after the nomination of the opposing candidate, Shanth Kumar, was rejected during scrutiny. The development effectively settled the contest even before the scheduled election date.
As per reports, the scrutiny committee declined Shanth Kumar’s papers citing technical defects, making them invalid. He was representing the Deccan Herald and Prajavani Sports Club faction backed by the Brijesh Patel camp. With his nomination rejected, Prasad became the sole valid candidate for the top post.

The Karnataka High Court had earlier directed that the KSCA presidential election be conducted on December 7, following internal disputes. Both Prasad and Shanth Kumar had filed their nominations in accordance with the court order. However, the rejection of the rival nomination left Prasad uncontested.
This win marks a comeback for Venkatesh Prasad in KSCA administration. He previously served as the KSCA Vice President between 2010 and 2013, before stepping away from administrative roles for more than a decade. His return is seen as a significant shift in the state cricket body’s leadership landscape.
With the scrutiny process complete and only one valid nomination remaining, Prasad has now been officially declared the new KSCA President, bringing a fresh phase to Karnataka cricket administration.
