  • No permission for matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium
  • Vijay Hazare match tomorrow called off
  • Safety inspection and commission norms pending

Bengaluru Police deny permission for matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, putting the scheduled Vijay Hazare Trophy clash on hold as the state awaits safety clearances and commission recommendations.

There will be no cricket action at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium tomorrow, with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh clearly stating that no permission has been granted to host any match at the venue. As a result, the Vijay Hazare Trophy match scheduled between Delhi and Karnataka will not be played as planned.

The clarification comes amid uncertainty over the resumption of matches at the stadium, even as star cricketer Virat Kohli has already arrived in Bengaluru in connection with the domestic fixtures.

On Monday, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had formally approached the state government seeking approval to conduct cricket matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The request includes permission for Vijay Hazare Trophy matches as well as upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) games.

The appeal was made by the newly elected KSCA administration, with its president Venkatesh Prasad personally meeting the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Home Minister, urging them to allow matches at the historic venue.

However, the state government has made its position clear: no approval will be given unless the recommendations of the Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission are fully implemented. These recommendations emphasise adequate police deployment, robust crowd control mechanisms, and comprehensive public safety measures during major sporting events.

To evaluate whether the stadium is prepared to meet these requirements, Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara has formed a multi-departmental committee. The panel is headed by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Commissioner, along with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner.

As part of this assessment process, a team led by Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh is scheduled to conduct an on-ground inspection of the stadium today, focusing on security arrangements and overall readiness.

Until the inspection is completed and the commission’s recommendations are implemented to the government’s satisfaction, matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium will remain suspended, officials indicated.
