While other IPL franchises move into pre-season mode, Royal Challengers Bengaluru remain caught between legal uncertainty and on-field planning over retained pacer Yash Dayal.

As preparations begin for IPL Season 19, most franchises have already shifted gears, with some even organising pre-season camps to get their players match-ready. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) find themselves in a phase of uncertainty on multiple fronts, with key decisions still hanging in the balance.

One major concern for RCB is the lack of clarity over their home ground for the upcoming season, which is yet to be finalised. Adding to the confusion is the situation surrounding left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal, whom the franchise retained ahead of the mega auction.

Dayal, who is an accused in a POCSO-related case registered in December last year, has now received significant legal relief. After his bail plea was rejected by a special POCSO court earlier, the Rajasthan High Court has granted him anticipatory bail, protecting him from immediate arrest.

Following this relief, Dayal has resumed training. After staying away from cricket and gym sessions for several months, the RCB pacer has returned to active preparation, focusing heavily on fitness with the upcoming IPL in mind. He has also started bowling in the nets, aiming to regain match fitness after a long break from competitive cricket.

The last competitive match Dayal played was the IPL final on June 3, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Since then, he has not featured in any match. During this period, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association unofficially barred him from domestic tournaments, including the UP T20 League.

Despite the court relief, the case against Dayal is not yet closed. This has placed the RCB management in a difficult position. Whether to play Dayal in IPL 19 or keep him out remains an unresolved question. The issue has already triggered criticism from fans, especially after RCB chose to retain him before the auction.

With IPL still two months away, RCB appears to be adopting a wait-and-watch approach. A final call is expected closer to the start of the tournament.
