In a significant milestone, Bengaluru’s vehicle population has now grown to over 1.21 crore. This growing number reflects the rapid urbanization and increasing transportation demands of Bengaluru, home to approximately 14 lakh people.

According to the latest data, two-wheelers make up the largest portion of the vehicle population, with 81.41 lakh registered units. Cars follow with 24.88 lakh, while auto-rickshaws and buses account for 76,932 and 1,28,619, respectively. Smaller categories, such as omni vehicles (5,715) and tractors (38,966), also contribute to the city’s diverse vehicular landscape.
From January to November last year, Bengaluru saw 6.97 lakh new vehicles registered, underscoring the city’s consistent vehicle growth. This surge highlights the need for better urban planning and an expanded public transportation network to tackle issues like traffic congestion and environmental impact.
Bengaluru's rapid increase in vehicles has put significant pressure on its infrastructure, leading to severe traffic jams and deteriorating air quality. Urban planners and authorities face growing challenges to find sustainable solutions for managing this parallel growth in both population and vehicles.
With two-wheelers dominating the streets, the data signals Bengaluru’s heavy reliance on personal mobility, raising concerns about its future capacity to accommodate such rapid expansion.
