In a spectacular box office debut, Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has emerged as the biggest Hindi opener of 2024. On its opening day, the film raked in a staggering ₹64.8 crore, surpassing the previous top openers of the year, Animal and Pathaan, which earned ₹63.8 crore and ₹57 crore, respectively.
Released on Independence Day, Stree 2 outperformed expectations with a remarkable start. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film’s opening weekend began with preview shows on Wednesday night, contributing ₹9.4 crore to its total. On Thursday, the film garnered ₹55.4 crore, bringing the cumulative total to ₹64.8 crore over the two days.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 has set a new benchmark for Hindi film openings this year, overshadowing the previous record held by Fighter with ₹24.6 crore on its debut in January. In comparison, Kalki 2898 AD, which was released in multiple languages, achieved a remarkable ₹95 crore, making it the biggest Indian opener of 2024.
Stree 2 faces competition from John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, which underperformed with collections of ₹6.52 crore and ₹5 crore. Part of Dinesh Vijan’s popular horror-comedy universe, Stree 2 continues the legacy of its predecessor Stree and previous hits like Roohi and Bhediya. The film also features a talented supporting cast, including Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhishek Bannerjee.
