SUN Mobility, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, is set to establish 100 battery-swapping centres across Bengaluru Metro stations, integrating clean energy solutions with public transportation. The initiative will enhance last-mile connectivity and promote sustainable urban mobility by covering the entire Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) network.

Currently, SUN Mobility facilitates approximately 22,000 vehicle swaps monthly in Bengaluru, averaging 100 swaps per station daily and consuming 130-140 kilowatt-hours per day. The new centres will be strategically located in metro station parking areas and auto stands, serving both two- and three-wheelers. Over the last month, the network has served 19,000 vehicles, with each station averaging 2,800 swaps.

SUN Mobility’s expansion is backed by IndianOil (IOCL), which has invested $78.3 million to form a 50:50 joint venture, IndoFast Energy. IOCL has committed ₹1,800 crores in equity to establish over 10,000 battery-swapping stations across 40 cities within three years, with a total investment exceeding $1 billion.

Currently, SUN Mobility operates over 630 swapping stations across 20 cities, supporting 50,000 smart batteries and enabling over one million swaps monthly. The Bengaluru Metro project underscores the company’s mission to revolutionize EV adoption and reduce urban carbon emissions.
