Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol had starred as the antagonist and the protagonist respectively in Darr alongside Juhi Chwla who played the female lead in the film in 1993. It was a blockbuster and the audience loved Shah Rukh Khan in a negative role. However Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol did not talk to each other for 16 years after the release of the film.

In an interview to the magazine Filmfare in 1993, Sunny famously said, "I’ll never work with Yash Chopra again. He isn’t a man of his words. I don’t have good memories about him, he betrayed my faith in him.” Sunny Deol was upset at the glorification of the antagonist of the film.

However Khan reportedly watched Gadar 2 and even enjoyed the film. He was even present at the success party of the film. The two have decided that let bygones be bygones and have patched up.

Sunny Deol in an interaction with India TV said, “Woh zamana (those days) when it happened, that was a different time. I say 'People, forget what happened in those days'. One understands such things should not have happened. It was 'bachpana' (childish), definitely. After that, Shah Rukh and I met several times and spoke to each other about many things. We also talked about some movies. This time, he was watching my film with his entire family. And he called me up. Toh sab cheezen bahut badhiya hai. Sab kuch bahut badhiya (everything is fine now).”
