The National Board of Examinations (NBE), under the National Testing Agency (NTA), had initially issued a notification stating that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) would be held in two separate shifts this year. This move sparked concerns among candidates over the potential for inequality in difficulty levels between the shifts.

A group of candidates challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, arguing that multiple shifts could compromise the fairness and uniformity of the high-stakes exam. After reviewing the petition, the apex court ruled in favour of the aspirants, instructing that NEET-PG 2025 be conducted in a single shift to maintain transparency and ensure equal opportunity for all candidates.

The Supreme Court’s order has led to the cancellation of the two-shift notification, and NTA is now expected to release an updated schedule and guidelines for the revised format.

This ruling has been welcomed by NEET-PG candidates and medical aspirants nationwide, who had expressed apprehensions over the previous format. The decision is seen as a significant victory for students advocating for fairness in competitive examinations.
