  • JN.1 seems more transmissible, there's no sign it causes more severe illness

Health authorities express heightened concerns as JN.1 strain, a variant stemming from the BA.2 lineage of SARS-CoV-2 is increasing.  The Union government released an advisory emphasizing the importance of enhanced vigilance, particularly for vulnerable populations.

It is important to be cautious, particularly with regard to susceptible populations like:

People with comorbid illness (more than one illness at once)

Elderly individuals ( 60 years and above)

Obese individuals

Unvaccinated individuals

The JN.1 variant is linked to symptoms like fever, body ache, cough, sore throat, runny nose, and anosmia (loss of smell).

In light of these symptoms, the advisory from the Union government underscores the significance of preventive measures. This encompasses the use of masks, adhering to social distancing, practicing good hygiene, and ensuring that vaccinations and booster doses are up to date.

The advisory emphasizes prompt precautionary doses for those yet to receive them. While JN.1 seems more transmissible, there's no sign it causes more severe illness. The government suggests that updated vaccines enhance protection against JN.1, similar to other variants.
