Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has witnessed a massive surge in cyber attacks, with over 1 million incidents reported in a short span. According to Yashasvi Yadav, Additional Director General of Maharashtra Cyber Crime Department, there has been a sharp increase in cyber offensive activities targeting Indian websites and digital platforms, particularly since April 22.

The Maharashtra Cyber Team has closely observed this trend, pointing out that several hacker groups are believed to be operating from Pakistan, as well as from regions in the Middle East, Indonesia and Morocco. Many of these groups claim affiliation with Islamic ideologies and appear to be working in a coordinated fashion.
The primary targets of these attacks are Indian government and private websites, portals and other digital infrastructure. The scale and nature of the cyber intrusions have raised serious concern among authorities, who fear that this may escalate into a form of cyber warfare. Officials are treating this as a deliberate attempt to digitally destabilize India in the wake of the Pahalgam incident.
The situation is under continuous monitoring, and cybersecurity agencies are on high alert to counter these threats and protect national digital assets.
