Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) leg-spinner Suyash Sharma has made a determined return to the Indian Premier League after battling multiple hernias that nearly ruled him out of the 2025 season. A major surgery in London helped the 21-year-old recover in time, enabling him to feature in RCB’s opening match against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Eden Gardens.

Sharma had been dealing with persistent pain for two years, often playing through discomfort without realizing the extent of his injury. Initially expected to join RCB mid-season, the young spinner underwent surgery overseas and completed an intense rehabilitation phase, returning to full fitness just weeks before the IPL began.
Despite being on bed rest for three months, Sharma resumed bowling only two weeks before the tournament but focused on mental preparation during his recovery. His journey to the IPL has been unconventional, having never played a major domestic tournament before being picked by KKR in 2023. His breakthrough came after a standout performance in a trial match, which led to his maiden contract.
Though he has claimed only four wickets in nine games this season, Sharma’s economy rate of 7.9 has been instrumental in stifling opposition batters during the middle overs.
The Delhi-born cricketer, who lost his father to cancer two years ago, draws strength from his family's unwavering support, crediting them for standing by him through challenges both on and off the field.
