T20WC 2024: With his two crucial catches in the final over, Surya Kumar Yadav exemplifies ‘catches win matches’!

With 16 off the last over, South Africa looked well-settled to hand India a defeat. On strike was David Miller, who is known for his six-hitting prowess. As Hardik Pandya bowled the first ball, the southpaw hoicked it! While everyone thought it would sail over the boundary, a fantastic Surya Kumar Yadav flew over the boundary line, pulling off a blinder!

As Miller walked back, the proteas still smelt a chance. But Surya Kumar Yadav was in action again as he caught and sent back Kagiso Rabada. With these two timely catches, SKY exemplified the adage ‘Catches win matches’! 

India beat South Africa by 7 runs to lift the T20WC 2024. This is the second T20 WC they have won after lifting it for the first time in 2007. Earlier, India set a target of 177, propelled by Virat Kohli’s 76. However, as the proteas started chasing it, Klassen’s blitzkrieg almost took the match away from the Indians, but Bumrah pulled things back with his 18/2 of his 4 overs. 

With this victory, the careers of legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have come to an end. This is also the end of Rahul Dravid as the coach as he yearns to spend time with his family.
