The appointment of actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal Soap has stirred significant backlash across Karnataka. Leaders like Karave President Narayana Gowda and Bigg Boss fame Roopesh Rajanna have openly opposed the move. They, along with various Kannada organizations, believe the state’s cultural pride is being compromised by appointing a non-Kannadiga to promote a heritage brand like Mysore Sandal Soap. Netizens have also taken to social media platform X, criticizing the government and brand management for sidelining local talent.

Roopesh Rajanna, leading the Yuva Karnataka Vedike, is set to stage a protest today in front of the Mysore Sandal Soap factory. Prior to meeting factory officials, the protest will witness hundreds of Kannada activists surrounding the premises. Karave President Narayana Gowda warned of more aggressive demonstrations if the decision is not reversed.

The dissatisfaction among locals has even reached consumers. Many have announced a boycott of Mysore Sandal Soap products unless Tamannaah is removed as the brand ambassador. Hashtags like #BoycottMysoreSandal and #KannadigaForKannadaBrand are trending online, reflecting widespread discontent.

Protestors are demanding that a well-known Kannada artist or cultural icon should be appointed instead, ensuring the brand’s legacy stays rooted in Karnataka’s identity and linguistic pride.
